Koncok – Koncok
Start from breakfast, lunch to dinner all dishes made from fish. Eg; breakfast with kella-kella fish, lunch with Tono-Tono Jhukok (in Bawean, fish grilled called tono-tono) while dinner with stew fish. Not only at your meals containing fish, the snacks also made from fish. Such as meatballs with fish, fish crackers, (the most famous Posot-Posot cracker), petis (such kind of mustard), until the famous Bawean snack, Koncok-Koncok. Some people say Koncok-Koncok as Pempek Bawean. Koncok-Koncok name originated from the food itself. In Bawean language, Koncok-Koncok means end section. Originally word is Koncok that means end. But now it has become a special snack from Bawean that a lot of people like it.
2. Buah Merah
Buah Merah Bawean (red fruit) is kind of undiscovered species of plants. Privileges, Buah Merah trees only grow and bear fruit in Bawean Island. Until now this Buah Merah has no name, it is different kind of Buah Merah from Papua. This rare fruit flavors are very tasty, delicious and savory. Different with other fruits which tasted fat, and sweet. Please note, Buah Merah season in Bawean Island has began in April until August. The characteristics of the fruit is its kind of small thorns on each fruits. There are two kinds of fruit, named Buah Merah with red color and Buah Merah Mentega with white color.
3. Pettola Crackers
When visit Bawean island, think what can be used as gifts for family. The answer is Petola Crackers (Kerupuk Petola). it is special because it is produced manually or by human hands without machine process. In Bawean, Petola cracker production done for generations by local residents. The crackers production itself use tuna fish as its main material, because this type of fish is common and easily caught in Bawean sea. Petola crackers is savory and delicious. This is because the process is quite interesting. The main materials for making Petola crackers is as same as other crackers. The materials are Tongkol fish, tapioca flour, seasoning, salt, baking soda and mold
4. Traditional Dance Performance
There are some traditional dances can be seen in Bawean. They are mandiling dance and song, Korcak dance, Bataa dance, Pencak and Dhungka music instruments. If you come to Bawean in big group, you will be shown with these dances. These dances and attractions are used to welcome the honoured guests.
5. Pandanus Plaited Mats
One of our famous local handycraft is Pandanus plaited mat. The process making this mat are unique. It starts with cut the leaves into long stalks, boiling Pandanus leaves with our natural colouring materials, drying for sun shine, and arranging to be plaited by our local people. It is needed 10 days to make one beautiful plaited mat. You can also practice to plait the pandanus stalks with our local people. The local people sell the product especially in local market and sometimes abroad, it is used also as a merchandise for family at home.
